Admin users are able to create item & subitems relationships in the Item Details page in Catalog.
Click on Add Subitems to begin, which will open a side bar on the right. Fill out the required fields of "Part ID", “Subitem Part ID” and “Quantity Per Item.” Part ID details will populate on the bottom of the window.
Admins can edit and remove existing subitems when necessary:
Note that items cannot be a subitem under one of its subitems. Additionally, subitems cannot contain subitems themselves. However, subitems can be subitems under multiple items.
For example, for the part below, because it is used as a subitem for multiple items, its details page shows a section titled “Subitem Belongs To Items Below.” Here we display the items this part is related to, but we do not show “Add Subitems,” edit, or delete buttons.
Metadata
You can manage an item's Metadata using the Manage Metadata button in the top left navigation bar. When clicked, a new side panel will appear from which you can add new metadata fields or edit existing ones. Click on +Add Metadata to enter new information.
You will need to then specify its Name and Value. To specify more than one, click on the + sign on the far right to add a new row. Use the trash can when needing to delete a row. Then click on Save to finish.
Pricing
We support two pricing options for items that have subitems:
-
Sum Of Subitems
-
Normal Pricing Via Pricing Engine
Sum of Subitems is Active
The Pricing Engine rule is available for both Global and Customer Specific Rules. When active and applied to lines with subitems, parent pricing is determined by the sum of its childrens’ pricing.
Add this new rule like you would for any other price source. However, keep the following in mind:
-
Markups and discounts cannot be used with Sum of Subitems.
-
Sum of Subitems is not available for use with Advanced Pricing Formulas.
Once "Sum of Subitems" is added, this rule operates like any other price source, where lines that do not have subitems will not qualify for this rule. In this scenario, the next applicable rule is chosen from the Pricing Engine priority list and is applied to the line item.
Sum Of Subitems Inactive
When "Sum of Subitems" is not active, CPQ will price both items and subitems normally according to the existing Global or Customer Specific Pricing Engine rules.
List View
When items are added to a quote, their related subitems will display underneath the item automatically. However, whether "Sum of Subitems" is active or inactive will determine how the item and its subitems are priced, and also dictate what can and cannot be edited.
Sum Of Subitems Is Active
When this pricing rule is active, subitems will display in List View as follows:
Subitem pricing will be calculated based on existing Pricing Engine rules and item pricing is determined by taking the sum of each subitem.
